How To Weld - An Introduction To Welding


If you are first learning how to weld, the most important thing is to learn the basics. Here is an introduction to welding that will put you on the right track to learn how to weld.

The first thing that you need to learn is a little bit of background information and terminology. Welding is the process of joining two different workpieces (whether they be aluminum, steel, plastic, or many other materials). A welder is the person who does the welding, while a welding machine is the equipment used to do the welding. Once you learn to differentiate those two terms, you are miles ahead of most other people without too much of an idea of how to weld.

There are a few processes for welding, with the main two being gas welding and arc welding.

Gas welding consists of using oxygen and a gas to create a chemical reaction which heats the workpieces to the point of being able to be joined together.

Arc welding is the most common in industrial settings and it consists of using an electrical current that transfers from the electrode on the welding gun to the workpieces in order to heat them to a temperature where they can be joined. For people learning how to weld, this can be the most desired route to go as arc welding has the most industrial purposes (such as for someone who wants to learn how to weld in order to do body work on a car).
